the book of boxes
i have been thinking of ways to exhibit/share my work without depending on institutions. i find the gallery system very flat and non-exciting plus not very accessible. with that in mind i spent some time in my studio a few days ago looking at my boxes (you can see them in this set: http://www.flickr.com/photos/takeout/sets/72157624695416904/ ) and was also thinking of artist books and how i have always wanted to make one. putting both of those together was natural and i decided to make a DIY made book with my boxes. i contacted a friend of mine, photographer ana de orbegoso to photograph the series. the way i visualize the book is simple: photos of each of the seven boxes, texts written by me and a silkscreened cover. the book will most probably be hand boud or spiral bound. my idea is to print the photos on paper and place them on the book pages using old school black photo corners, not sure how the text will go.
i need to find a place to present the book and the actual boxes, i'm not sure what kind of space i'm looking for. what i do know is that i don't want a white cube.
update: i have been thinking of adding two more boxes to this set,'the wounded box' and 'the box of birth'. i added them to the flickr set to see how much sense they make or not in this series, still pondering/still undecided...
