it´s been a while...
i have not been posting because i was way too busy with work, then i participated in a special school project with an organization called un techo para mi pais where 400 high school students and a handful of teachers built homes for very needy families in a far away neighborhood called ciudad de gosen in the district of villa maria del triunfo (here are a few photos from that weekend) and then i came down sick. which is where i am now but i´m trying to get better and live a normal life at the same time.
i have been working very little but here´s what´s coming out of the studio
i´m still painting objects that hold a memory and energy and that are helping me remember. my grandfather tato was a doctor and this is his gauze tin can. i must have seen it almost on a daily basis when i was a child.
i´ve fallen in love with watercolours, they give me peace and i manage to get a kind of melancholic aura in my paintings with them.
as i paint these objects i remember and piece together my past, i try to reconnect with this land that has become so strange to me. all of these paintings will be part of my april 2012 exhibition, it´s becoming a show about looking back to be able to walk forward/ an attempt to reconnect with perú.
i have also been very interested in decay and marks of time. i began making collages about this and this is just my first attempt at that.
i´m using any and every material, saving bits and pieces from being trashed and trying to capture the passage of time.
