serge in the studio

i'm sick. i guess it finally got me, probably because i've been through so much stress and sadness these days. because of this i've been in bed most of the day but i also escaped to the studio to do some work as making art can always make me feel better. i worked on a box experimenting with printing band aids onto it and also started the jacket in these photos with a serge gainsbourg image on the back. i had been wanting to paint a jean jacket for a while and am loving it. it's different than painting shirts, i actually think i like it more. i've stopped for the day because i'm feeling pretty awful and am dreading this can become a bronchitis unless i take really good care of myself, i hope i can finish it tomorrow if i'm feeling better.

i also started the process of selling my cards, (the ones i uploaded here) to a museum shop and a store. i'm hoping something will work out and i will have at least a bit more income. god i feel so sick, time to take some tea...

p.s. i submitted my application to LMCC Workspace Program and i'm proud i did it no mater what the outcome is. now i have to prepare a very different application for cooper union. i need to not get more sick!

Plastic Membrane in Three Acts

Flores_chio_4

Today I put together my submission to LMCC Worskspace Studio Residency Program and G helped me re-size and edit the photos to submit. We decided on a composite of three photos for the Plastic Membrane photograph to give a better idea of the performance. G made it and it looks great so I'm uploading it here. The photos were taken by Peter Hayes.

Working on this submission made me feel really good for different reasons; one because every year I have been meaning to apply but never did it because I was too busy working and every year I would see the deadline pass me by, It has also been good practice on following submission guidelines. I know being selected is hard but this is working for me already, if I get the residency it will be an added plus but I'm already gaining from this experience.

PS1 Studio Visit

I posted my work to PS1's Studio Visit website and I'm happy about it, however, I think submissions cannot be edited which is not good. Here is me http://ps1.org/studio-visit/artist/chio-flores?nocache=1 I'm now going to sit here and wait for curators, dealers and collectors to start calling...

Next step: tackle the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council (LMCC) submission, the deadline is this Thursday, it crep in on me!

the body bag found its home during sitefest

this is the way i showed the body bag during sitefest and it's never looked so good/at home. the walls of this building embraced it as if they always lived together; the body bag looked powerful/compelling/disturbing/poetic and majestic in its temporary home.

W update

W was bought by a gallerist and curator whose name  i won't reveal here and now lives in manhattan. this made me very happy and strength to keep going in the direction i took almost around the same time i started to use this blog more consistently. and speaking of consistency, i haven't been posting lately because i'm literally buried in work and all i do all day is that. and still i have no money, that is a mystery to me although i was thinking about that the other day and realized that my work is highly-almost unrealistically demanding and laborious/time consuming but very badly paid. and new york is expensive so all i do is work to eat. but hopefully things will change at some point...
