back to the studio after some crazy days at work

rooster stencil in my sketchbook/journal/portable studio

not that i have much time to make art now but this is me trying not to loose my rhythm and connection to my artwork, this past week i have dedicated most of my time and energy to my students but today i had a bit of time so i made and tested the rooster stencil. this is a test in my book, i have others on some already spray painted paper (the one from the previous post) that i´m still working on and will photograph when they acquire more shape. i´m liking how this is looking...

i started making these spray painted backgrounds for my students; my form IV class is curating an exhibition on women artists (i´ll write more on that in my studio 409 blog soon) and these are backgrounds for their invites to the teachers. the paper was actually a large piece of thick brown paper first used as floor covering for spray painting during the students´art igcse exam. it had cool marks from them and i just added paper doily stencils and am now cutting them for the invites. i will post a photo of them when they´re done. i saved three pieces for me, and i know what i will do with them once i have time. i´ve liked making these so much i plan to make more on that same paper. i have no idea what its called but its thick and awesome. i need to get more spray paint!

tato y tati (wedding portrait)

tato y tati (wedding portrait)

sometimes i sketch with photographs. yesterday i bought chamomile at the farmer´s market and thought of my grandma tati as she would always have some in the kitchen to make tea with. i´m into putting things into jars lately and going to my grandparent´s house brought back memories of my grandfather tato filling empty jars with stuff always, like nails, screws, nuts and bolts. as a child, i loved looking at his filled up jars; the last time i went to their now pretty much abandoned house i recovered the one in the photo. tato labelled his jars which makes me feel so much tenderness towards him... when i placed the chamomile in the jar it looked like something from my grandma and then i placed it next to tato´s and the photograph happened organically... this is them...

the floor of my memories

i have never painted floors before...

i've had a lot of fun or should i say pleasure, painting these floor tiles and thinking about the days running on them and going through all the memories they bring back...

floor of my memories

i used watercolours for these, i´m not sure if they will be silkscreened or if i´ll end up choosing another medium/technique but i´m sure they will be in my exhibition.

making this piece has reminded me of this series by delvoye...
